Weatherization Program
Much to many folks surprise, the “outhouse” is still being
used in Tazewell County, and much to many folks surprise there
are still homes that do not have a bathroom or in- complete
plumbing. Over the past year, CVCA has built two new homes and
are in the process of completing two additional homes.
Our Weatherization Program staff completed another successful
year by completing 32 units in Tazewell & Russell Counties with
our DOE contract spending a total of $103,306.00. In our LIHEAP
WX Program, we completed 72 units in Tazewell & Russell
Counties.
The
Weatherization Program is designed to assist low-income clients in Tazewell and Russell
Counties reduce energy loss such as:
- Attic Insulation
- Heating System Inspection
- Side wall insulation
To be
eligible for this program, you must own your home and meet income guidelines of the
Department of Energy (130% of poverty) which are based on family income for the past 12
months and the number in the household.
Heating Equipment Repair and Placement
This
program is designed to assist low-income households in Tazewell and Russell Counties who
have unsafe heating systems to repair and replace their heating systems. Applications can
be made through each local Department of Social Services from November 1 - March 31.

Provides testing on heating equipment
to determine if system needs to be repaired or replaced.

Replaces heating equipment as deemed
necessary to provide a safe heating system for the client.

Provides education to the client with
helpful tips on how to clean coils and change filters.

Cooling Assistance
The
Cooling Assistance Program is designed to assist low-income households in Tazewell County
with cooling needs. Applications are taken only during the months of June-August. Other
special requirements may apply. The program provides window air
conditioning for households that meet:

Furnace Repair Program
Our furnace repair program has been
effective in identified unit hazards as well as installing
carbon monoxide detectors that will prevent any fatality from
harmful gases.
Virginia Water Project
Assists
low-income clients that may need wells dug, septic systems installed, septic systems
pumped or repaired, water tanks, or tap on fees. Applicants must meet the guidelines of
Virginia Water Projects. Applications are made to CVCA, then sent to Southwest Rural
Community Project in Roanoke for approval.

In-Door Plumbing
Assists
low-income clients in Tazewell County that do not have an indoor bathroom.

House must exist and must either lack
"complete indoor plumbing or lack an indoor bathroom".

Applicant must have lived in his/her
residence for at least one year.

Services include permanent relocation
of the household from a dilapidated house or substantial
reconstruction of the household.

Each loan is obligated for a term of 10
years with a 0% interest rate.
