Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program

HPRP is focused on housing for homeless and at-risk households. It will provide temporary financial assistance, housing relocation, and stabilization services to individuals and families who are homeless or will be homeless. The funds under this program are intended to target two populations of persons facing housing instability:

...Individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness (residing in emergency or transitional shelters or on the street) and need temporary assistance in order to obtain housing and retain it.

...Individuals and families who are currently in housing but are at risk of becoming homeless and need temporary rent or utility assistance to prevent them from becoming homeless or assistance to move to another unit (prevention).

It is important to note that HPRP is not a mortgage assistance program. HPRP funds are eligible to help with renters and home owners with pay for utilities and security deposits.

For additional information feel free to contact the Housing Department at Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc. @ 276-988-5583 ext. 333.

Senior Companion Program Accepting New Volunteers

‘I am needed and help my clients stay independent in their home…where they want to stay’, is often heard said by volunteer companions with the Senior Companion Program sponsored by Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc (CVCA).

Companions must be 55 years of age or older with a household income at the 200% of poverty level or less.  They must pass a physical stating they are able to perform these duties and have a TB test.  The companion’s personal references are screened and each potential companion will be screened with a criminal background check including fingerprinting.  All Senior Companions receive 40 hours of initial training and monthly training at in-services also.

Being a Senior Companion has many benefits including payment of a non-taxable stipend of $2.65 per hour; mileage reimbursement up to 10 miles a day; 12 paid personal days per year; paid holidays; paid hours on days when there is no school due to inclement weather; monthly training; and recognition events.  Companions must be available to work at least 15 hours per week and additional hours are often available.
