Eliminates barriers to
employment through education, skills training, and support
services
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides training to
individuals with barriers to employment. CVCA offers
training in the following service areas:
Workforce Training programs
Younger Youth (ages 14 to 18 ) -
A program designed to serve youth who have barriers to
completing an educational program. Youth must meet income
guidelines and be attending a secondary educational facility.
Typical services include career counseling, career assessments,
part-time work experience, a variety of workshops (study skills,
leadership skills, citizenship, drop-out prevention, etc.).
Older Youth (ages 18 to 21) - A
program designed to serve youth who have barriers to completing
an educational program or becoming employed. Youth must meet
income guidelines and selective services requirements. Typical
services include career counseling, career assessment, work
experience, classroom training, a variety of workshops (job
seeking skills, job keeping skills, study skills, importance of
education (academic or vocational), citizenship, . Priority in
this program is given to school drop-outs.
Both programs have intense counseling by case managers on a
need basis. Support services such as counseling, travel, meals,
medical, etc. are also available , as needed. Follow-up services
are included for a period of one year after termination.
Adult - A program designed to
serve adults 18 and over who have barriers to employment or
education. Adults must meet income guidelines and meet selective
service requirements. Typical services include career
counseling, comprehensive assessments, work experience,
On-the-Job Training, internships, class size training, skill
training. Support services such as medical, travel, meals, etc.
are also available.
Dislocated Worker - A program
designed to serve individuals who are laid off from their
current employer. Individuals must produce a lay-off slip/letter
or must have received a letter of pending lay-off. Typical
services are classroom skill training, On-the-Job Training,
career assessment, support services, counseling, and job
placement. No income guidelines are associated with this
component.
